MAV & Epitex – A Partnership in Success

MAV Systems capture superior night time overview images for ITS using Epitex infrared LEDs

When MAV Systems began developing their next generation ANPR cameras and stand-alone illuminators to meet the evolving needs of the ITS sector they chose Epitex LEDs to capture the crisp images of fast moving vehicles in high definition.

Of their new ITS camera products, Steve Walker, Managing Director of MAV said; “Our customers need the best overview images, night and day, and don’t want to use harsh white light or have to erect expensive additional mounting positions. Combining our intelligent LED pulse driver circuits with Epitex infrared LEDs means that we can provide clear night-time pictures of vehicles, even in multi-lane scenarios, from a single overhead gantry with no driver distractions”.

The problem with many ANPR cameras is their lack of illumination capability which restricts their ability to capture clear non-retro reflective licence plates and vehicle images during the night. Combining the phenomenal illumination capabilities of Epitex LEDs with MAV’s HD cameras has meant that the ITS sector can access images that are clearly better both day and night.
Known best for their Rapier range of professional ANPR cameras, MAV have concentrated recent developments on the ITS market to add combinations of HD cameras and Illumination units with many enhanced features in their Rapier 50HD range.

These MAV-Epitex based ANPR solutions have been benchmarked in road-tolling and point-to-point enforcement systems in Singapore and Australia where they have out-performed the competition under tightly controlled tests. The ANPR cameras are the foundation of these systems and partnering with talented software organisations worldwide allows for successful deployments that are often tailored to specific regional needs.

Peter Henden, Technical Director at MAV Systems commented that “Epitex offer us the full range of interchangeable LED wavelengths combined with a superb level of quality and long-life reliability that we demand within our products.”
Katsunori Maeda, CEO at Epitex echoed those comments, “Working with MAV provided us with the opportunity of showcasing the strength of our products in a growing sector.”
